Patient Financial Counselor
The Patient Financial Counselor will work under the general supervision of the Revenue Cycle Manager. This position provides a contact for patients seeking medical services financial assistance, insurance eligibility determination, precertification of insurance coverage and investigation of denials. They will focus on uninsured, underinsured or credit risk patients.
Responsibilities for Patient Financial Counselor
Ability to communicate terms of Financial Policy to patients for full comprehension of payment expectations.
Responsible for Point of Service Collections for patients outstanding balances
Bill appropriate state or federally funded programs and follows required procedure for patient eligibility and/or transfer
Determine patients’ ability to pay and secure repayment arrangement with patient, according to Sevier County Medical Center established polices
Provide comprehensive audit and analysis on patient accounts
Exercises problem solving skills independently and update system to resolve any patient account delay
Qualifications for Patient Financial Counselor
Prior experience in credit, collection and billing is required, preferably in a hospital setting.
1-3+ years of hospital experience and working knowledge of all patients accounting functions, including pre-admissions and admission registration
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Ability to function with team members and the ability to solve problems swiftly
Excellent organizational and customer service skills desirable.
Secondary Functions: All other duties assigned by Revenue Cycle Manager
