Medical Coder/Biller (On-Site)

The Medical Coder/Biller will work under the general supervision of the Business Office Director. This position will provide timely and accurate administrative and clinical data through the accurate assignment of current ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes. This position provides guidance for Revenue Cycle support for ensuring that all patient accounts are properly billed on a timely basis.

Responsibilities for Medical Coder/Biller

• Analyze inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and physician medical records for assignment of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.

• Follow departmental and current official coding guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate coding of diagnostic and procedural data

• Ensure that the medical staff documents have sufficient information for accurate coding and appropriate reimbursement, requesting clarification from the provider when information is incomplete.

• Utilize the use of 3M encoder, Meditech, and any other software necessary to ensure proper coding and accuracy

• Researches and responds by telephone and/or in writing to patient inquiries regarding billing issues and problems.

• Processes billing to patients and third-party insurance companies.

• Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers.

• Works in conjunction with multiple departments to ensure clean billing.

• Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

• Monitors submitted claims; follows up on unpaid claims, and initiates dialogue with insurance companies.

Qualifications for Medical Coder/Biller

• 3-5+ years' experience in medical coding/billing role or related experience

• Certified Coding Specialist or Certified Professional Coder preferred

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

• Ability to function with team members and the ability to solve problems swiftly

• Effective communicator with critical thinking skills

• Commitment to high level of accuracy and compliance
