Health Information Management Coder

The Health Information Coder will work under the general supervision of the Health Information Manager. This position will provide timely and accurate administrative and clinical data through the accurate assignment of current ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes.

*This position will not work remotely.

Responsibilities for Health Information Management Coder

  • Analyze inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and physician medical records for assignment of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding.

  • Follows departmental and current official coding guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate coding of diagnostic and procedural data.

  • Ensures that the medical staff documents have sufficient information for accurate coding and appropriate reimbursement, requesting clarification from the provider when information is incomplete.

  • Utilizes the use of 3M encoder, Meditech, and any other software necessary to ensure proper coding and accuracy

Qualifications for Health Information Management Coder

  • High school graduate required. College Degree preferred

  • 3 – 5+ years extensive experience with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS required

  • Certified Coding Specialist or Certified Professional Coder preferred

  • Effective communicator with critical thinking skills

  • Commitment to high level of accuracy and compliance

    Secondary Functions: All other duties assigned by HIM Manager
